Peter A. Ornstein, Ph.D.Peter A. Ornstein, Ph.D., is the F. Stuart Chapin Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A developmental psychologist, Dr. Ornstein's research concerns cognitive development, especially the development of young children's memory. He explores how social factors, such as interactions with parents and teachers, influence developmental changes in children’s abilities to remember. This research entails how children’s memory strategies emerge in the early elementary school years, as well as focuses on transitions from early expressions of nonverbal memory to later uses of language to make reference to past experiences.
